Meaning of The Laughing Heart by Charles Bukowski

your life is your life

don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.

be on the watch.

there are ways out.

there is light somewhere.

it may not be much light but

it beats the darkness.

be on the watch.

the gods will offer you chances.

know them.

take them.

you can’t beat death but

you can beat death in life, sometimes.

and the more often you learn to do it,

the more light there will be.

your life is your life.

know it while you have it.

you are marvelous

the gods wait to delight

in you.

Explanation - 

Through this poem, the poet asks man to fight with sorrows.  The poet begins his poem with special significance of life.  The poet says that this life is only yours.  He goes on to say very strongly that do not waste this life crying in sorrow and pain.  He says get ready to fight your grief.  There are many ways to live life.  He further explains that look  , there is light everywhere.  Even if it is not enough for you, but this light can erase the darkness of your life.  The poet then says be ready, God will give you an opportunity.  Recognize and accept those opportunities. Talking about death, the poet says that death is the ultimate truth.  You cannot beat it but you can definitely defeat the sorrow of your life.  The more you teach to overcome your pains, the more happiness you will have in your life.  He says in the end that even God is waiting for the happiness inside you.  You learn to live while alive, this life is yours and only yours.

Translated version -

तुम्हारा जीवन - तुम्हारा है,

इसे दुःख से मरने मत दो,

तैयार हो जाओ,

यहां जीने के कई तरीके है,

यहां हर जगह प्रकाश ही प्रकाश है,

शायद यह प्रकाश पर्याप्त न हो,

लेकिन जीवन का अंधेरा मिटाने के लिए काफी है,

तो तैयार हो जाओ,

ईश्वर तुम्हे अवसर देगा,

उन अवसरों को पहचानो,

उन्हें स्वीकार करो,

तुम मृत्यु को मात नहीं दे सकते लेकिन,

कभी कभी जीते जी मृत्यु (दु:ख)  को हरा सकते हो,

और जितना तुम  दुःखो पर जीत हासिल करना सीखोगे,

उतना ही प्रकाश तुम्हारे जीवन में होगा,

तुम्हारा जीवन-तुम्हारा है,

इसे जिंदा रहते समझ जाओ,

तुम कमाल के हो,

ईश्वर तुम्हारे अंदर आनंद की प्रतीक्षा में है ।
